Kayak Fitouts and Accessories

THRESHER SHARK FIRST

Paul Spath, the new owner of a Hobie Adventure christened his kayak in style with the capture of an elusive Thresher Shark here in Mornington.  The 41kg shark took a trolled hard body lure internded for snapper rigged on 10lb braid and 20lb leader.  Paul fought the shark for one and a half hours before he managed to tail grab it and was assisted by charter operator Mathew Hunt to gaff the fish.  A Victorian kayak fishing first!!!!!

Snapper Fire On The Bay

Its been a bit of a hit and miss start to the snapper season here in the Southern end of Port Philip Bay but the fish are in full swing now.  I pulled these two off Seaford in 11m of water with the good old trusty Rapala X Rap Deep Diver in white and red.

VAUGHN BAGS FIRST SNAPPER

Vaughn caught this great 6kg snapper last week off Rickets Point in his Hobie Outback.  Looks like the fish are in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Vaughn plays in the ruck :)

DIRK HARTOG ISLAND

May 2009 was out first "BIG" kayak fishing trip away.  We took a 14 man and kayak group to Dirk Hartog Island in Western Australia.  It was an awesome trip with great accomodation and the opportunity to fish remote areas.

NEW PRO ANGLER ARRIVED

The Pro Angler is the latest fishing kayak release from Hobie.  Its been designed purely for fisherman and sets a new benchmark in yak fishing. Here are the lads show us the boat at QEX California.

Salmon On The Peninsula

Check out local Mornington Peninsula Hobie fisherman, Matt on his Hobie Mirage Sport.  Matt's been terrorising the salmon schools up and down the bay and is seen here in this vid cleaning em up again at Safety Beach.

CATCHING SNAPPER FROM OUTBACKS

Scott Lovig hits Mornington in his Hobie Mirage Outback to catch snapper with trolled Rapala deep diving lures.  Its an unconventional way to catch snapper and a lot of fun.  The stealth of the Hobies combined with weighting down the lures so they swim deeper than ever dose the trick.

SCOTT LOVIG WINS ABT KAYAK GRAND FINAL

The Hobie BREAM Kayak Grand Final was held over two days in conjunction with the Forster Fishing Carnival on March 24-25. It was the culmination of qualifying anglers from the east coast events held in Sydney, Mooloolaba, Gold Coast and Forster. With 26 ready to fish Hobie Kayaks supplied, all the anglers had to do was bring their rods, reels and tackle and battle it out to be the first recorded Grand Final winner.

At the end of two days in the fish rich waters of Forster and the Wallis Lakes system, the champion angler was Victorian Hobie rep Scott Lovig, with a 4/4, 2.19kg limit over the two sessions. Scott used a Nitro 6 piece travel rod matched to a Daiwa Certate 2500 spooled with 4lb braid and 6lb Sunline V Hard fluorocarbon.

Lovig used a Berkley 2" shrimp in pepper prawn colour rigged on a size 4, 1/50th Nitro jighead to lure all his fish. Working the floating racks, Lovig positioned his Hobie kayak carefully with the wind and tide before making a precision casts.

"I would cast tight to the racks and let the lure sink for 5 seconds before retrieving and casting again," explained the champ.

Looking for the actively feeding bream close to the surface when Lovig hooked up he would drop the rod tip in the water and wind with a tight drag to extract the bream from the racks.

A supporter of the newly introduced 2009 Hobie BREAM Kayak Series, Lovig attended all 4 qualifying rounds and deservedly has his name written in the records books as the 2009 champ.

OUTBACK FITOUT

Here is a rundown of a Hobie Outback kayak fishing setup.  This is the way Scott lovig currently customises his yak for fishing in Port Phillip Bay for snapper, salmon and other beasties.  For this job he used "Dermie" number 23 yak that won the inaugral ABT grand final.

AUSSIE SALMON ACTION

Check out the latest fishing from Scott with Matty holding the camera.  Every Summer the salmon put on a great show close to shore all up and down Port Phillip Bay.  If you have a QUIET kayak you sneak right up on them and often hover over the school.  Matty and Scott were having fun seeing if theye could get a lure past them without a hook up.

TEAM SLH TEA TREE RESULTS

The Hobie team pulled some good fish for the Tea Tree snapper competition.  The average size was 3.5kg and all fish taken on trolled Rapala deep diving lures.  It was a hard weekend for many with only half the power boat fraternity weighing in fish.

HOBIE SPORT FITOUT

In this clip Scott takes you on a brief tour of a Hobie Sport we have fitted out for "Brendan" who is going to fish in all sorts of conditions.  Brendan wanted a light weight kayak that he could get on and off the roof of his car easily and allow him to chase fish on lakes, rivers, estury, even snapper on Port Phillip Bay.

HOBIE LIVE WELL

The guys from Kayak Fish Nation show us in detail the Hobie Live Well Tank.  These are an awesome accessory we keep in stock for big fish enthusiasts.
